我们是外教，但不是外人——郑州大学国际学院外籍教师的抗疫“宣言”图

    新冠肺炎疫情发生以来，许多在华工作和生活的外籍友人选择留在中国，与中国人民共克时艰，携手对抗疫情。国际学院的外籍教师心系学生，利用微信、直播等方式线上授课，关心学生学习情况的同时用自己的方式为中国加油，为武汉助威，为郑大祈福，并表示会积极配合，与中国人民共渡难关！
    抗战疫情无国界，齐心协力为学子。为使同学们在此特殊时期以更加坚定的信心面对挑战，国际学院外籍教师也为大家送上真挚的祝福，鼓励广大学子无论置身何处都要一心向学，强健体魄，身心愉快。

    This recent outbreak has brought forward new challenges that very few of us has ever faced. Our homes, neighborhoods, campuses have been put under lockdown. Many pleasantries that we have grown accustomed to and took for granted in our usual life became unavailable. So it is normal for some of us to feel overwhelmed by a wide range of emotions that may go from helplessness, desperation, restlessness, paranoia all the way to pure and simple fear for our lives and the lives of those who are dear to us.
    In order to put our minds to rest, it might be useful to acknowledge two aspects of our current situation. First of all we have confidence, capabilities and definition to win this virus. Secondly this can be an important experience from which we can learn some valuable lessons that can help us grow stronger as individuals as well as communities.
    My suggestion is to use this valuable opportunity to cut out any external distraction and do some introspection. Finding what is really important for your well being can be an excellent way to prioritize effectively for your future after everything will inevitably go back to normal. Specifically, I sincerely hope  and would like to help you realize that the pursuit of knowledge is the best way to invest your time and efforts.
    We are all in this together and we can do this. We will overcome this tragedy and come out of it stronger than ever before. Come on, Zhengzhou University! Come on, ZZUers!
    最近的疫情爆发给我们带来了前所未有的变化。我们的家园、社区、校院封锁了。我们习以为常的生活变成了梦想。因此，一些人感到被各种各样的情绪压倒是正常的，这些情绪可能从无助、绝望、不安直到对我们的同学朋友家人安全的担心和恐惧。  但请同学们谨记两条：首先，我们有信心有能力抗击疫情，最终必将胜利。其次，同学们可以从中吸取一些宝贵的教训，帮助我们个人和团体变得更加强大。
    同学们要充分利用这个宝贵机会，消除任何外部干扰，做一些反思。我希望也非常乐意帮助同学们认识到，追求知识是投入时间和精力的最佳方式。
    在这场“战疫”中，我们始终都在一起，我们终将战胜这场灾难，并从阴霾中中走出来，比以往任何时候都更加强大。加油，郑州大学！加油，郑大人！

   The most beautiful things in life are not just things. They’re people, places and memories.
    I'm getting ready to meet my students again that I’ve missed when China was hit hard by the CONVID 19. I’ll say that I’m really impressed of the immediate, strong and effective measures the government have taken to control the spread of the virus.
    We are all without any doubt by the side of China through the fight against CONVID 19. And to all my students, I love and miss you all. Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. Stay safe and strong, don’t stop practicing your spoken English and I believe in China that we will overcome this moment.         
   生命中最美的东西不只是物，是人，是地方，是回忆。
   我期盼假期快些结束再次见到我的学生，但这一切正被一场严重的新冠病毒疫情所阻隔。作为一名外教，中国政府为控制病毒传播所采取的强有力的措施给我留下了深刻难忘的印象。
   在疫情抗争的过程中，我们都毫不犹豫站在中国的一边。我亲爱的学生们，我十分想念你们。永远记住，你远比你想象中的自己更勇敢，更坚强，更聪明。在保持身体强健的同时，也不要忘记英语口语练习，在这艰难时期，我相信中国，相信我们所有人都能安然度过。

    When I first heard about the Coronavirus I wasn´t taking it too seriously. I thought it would be gone soon. I did not think that so many people would get sick and even die.  But I am positive that we will win this fight against the virus soon. This is a time we all have to stand together and work towards ending this pandemic. We should all do what we can do to prevent a further spread of the virus.
    Many of you might be bored at home but I see this as a time of opportunity. You can use this time to relax and enjoy time with your family. You can work on your cooking skills, work out and use this time to learn something new. You can even start to learn a new language. Everyone can use the time at home to do something useful!
    I also want to say to my students. Take this virus very seriously and don´t forget your studies. Be vigilant when you go outside or interact with people. Wear a mask and gloves when you go outside. I wish all of you health and happiness. Soon you will see you friends again and be back in your normal students life. I look forward to seeing you all again in class and on campus! I believe in China and I believe in the people living here! Stay strong!
    当第一次听说冠状病毒的时候，和很多人一样，我并没有把它放在心上。我以为它很快就会消失。我没想到这么多人会生病甚至死亡。但我相信我们很快就能赢得这场与病毒的斗争。这是一个我们都必须团结一致、努力抗争直至病魔终结的时刻。我们都应该尽我们所能防止病毒的进一步传播。
    这段时期，很多同学在家可能会感到无聊，但我认为这是一个机会。你可以利用这段时间来放松享受与家人在一起的时光，你可以努力提高自己的烹饪技巧，锻炼身体，利用这段时间学习新的东西。你甚至可以开始学习一门新语言。每个人都可以利用在家的时间做一些有用的事情！
    我也想对我的学生说，在严防病毒的同时，也别忘记继续学习。外出要做好防护，记得戴上口罩和手套。希望所有人健康快乐。一切都将会过去，很快你就会再次见到你的同学朋友，回到你正常的学生生活中。我期待在课堂上和校园里再次见到你们！我相信中国，我相信生活在这里的人们！坚强再坚强！

    Hello from my Apartment! Hope everyone is doing well and being bored is the biggest of your worries. I've been staying inside, keeping safe and healthy (as you all should). Spending my days preparing for classes and upgrading my cooking skills. Spending my nights watching TV shows and trying to memorize that song from The Witcher.
    I have to say, I miss being on campus and interacting with students. Sharing knowledge, our cultures and a few laughs are what I'm looking forward to most when classes go back to normal.
    It feels like an eternity has passed since the start of the Corona virus outbreak, but I'm confident that even this will pass. Things seem to be getting better and I'm excited to hear how everyone has grown and what new English you all learned during this extended holiday! Keep working hard (but don't forget to have a little fun as well)!
    来自我公寓里的问候：希望同学们都安好，无聊或许你最大的烦恼。我一直待在公寓里，保证安全和健康，每天都在备课，提高烹饪技能，努力保持头脑清晰，希望你们亦是如此。晚上我看一些电视节目，尝试学会电视剧里的那些歌曲。
    我不得不说，我十分想念在校园里和你们相处交流的日子。当一切恢复正常时，与可爱的同学们分享知识、文化和欢笑将是我最期待的。
    自从疫情爆发以来，感觉时间是如此漫长，但我坚信黑夜必定过去，黎明就在眼前！一切似乎都在好转，我很高兴听到大家都在成长，在这个漫长的假期里你们英语有哪些进步？期待与你们见面交流，希望大家继续努力工作、学习（但也别忘了找点乐趣）！

    To the students of International College of Zhengzhou University: Even though we are going through this time of difficult circumstances, learning should never stop.  While we are given this time to stay home, not only to protect ourselves from the coronavirus but we can also think of it as a time of reflection of the past and planning of the future. 
    For me, I realized how my dream of teaching in an university has been fulfilled for the past two years by teaching at Zhengzhou University. I’m also using this time to develop my hobby of painting and drawing; I have painted around forty pictures so far.  I would like to take this opportunity to encourage my students to take advantage of this prolonged vacation to strengthen your academics by reviewing and previewing your subjects at the same time develop some life skills such as cooking. 
    We will see each other soon and by that time you will be physically and mentally ready to welcome the new semester!
    致郑州大学国际学院的同学们：尽管我们正在经历艰难的时刻，但学习的脚步不应该停止。虽然我们呆在家里，不仅是为了保护自己免受冠状病毒的侵害，也可以把它看作是一个反思过去和规划未来的时刻。
    对我来说，我在郑州大学国际学院教书，实现了我的人生梦想。我正在利用这段居家时间一方面积极备课，同时也在培养我的绘画爱好，到目前为止，假期里我已经画了大约40幅画。我想借此机会，鼓励郑州大学国际学院的学生们充分利用这个长假，复习和预习课程的同时，培养一些烹饪等生活技能，以加强学业。
我们很快就要见面了，你的身心准备好迎接新学期了吗？！

     Hello again everyone it is I JDB. I hope everyone is enjoying your extra-long holiday. I hope you all are happy because you all told me you wanted a long holiday. You all got the holiday you wanted. I know you all miss me so very much but I miss you all also. We just have to wait. We will see each other soon. As we are waiting it is the perfect time for us to better ourselves. Maybe learn something  new or start a new hobby. There is always something new to do. I am looking forward to seeing you all again after this holiday. The next time we meet I bet we will have many things to tell each other. I hope this term will be better then the last one. Remember everyone stay safe. Like I aways say be happy be healthy.

    Hi guys, like myself,  I’m sure you are all getting bored of sleeping in late, playing games and relaxing on your sofa all day, every day.  But fear not!  I’m planning   work for us. I have various preparations for your English study. I can't wait to see your big smiles when I give you twice as much homework this semester!  In the meantime, try to make good use of this time by keeping busy. Let's not to waste the precious time and exercise in home.  I also hope everyone try to take a little time every day to study and practice your English. Meanwhile, try to remember how lucky we are.  We should be grateful.  This virus has affected so many lives but thanks to the hard work of Chinese medical professionals, volunteer workers and security personnel, the majority of us are safe and healthy.  Looking forward to seeing you all in class soon!
    嗨伙计们，我相信你也像我一样已经厌倦熬夜、玩游戏和在沙发上放松。但请不用担心！我一直在认真地备课，在做着各种预案，我会尽我所能灵活机动让你们学到更多获得更多。我迫不及待地想看到你们的笑容。我希望在这段特殊时期，和同学们一起互相勉励，保持忙碌，不浪费宝贵时光，并坚持锻炼身体。也希望同学们每天花点儿时间学习和练习英语。我们应该庆幸和感恩，正是工作人员、志愿者和保安人员的辛勤工作，我们大多数人才得以安全健康，希望很快在课堂上见到你们！

    Hi, my dear students. Miss you so much. We meet the special  times. We should have the special responsibility that is to keep safe , to protect oneself seriously, to keep one's spirit high and look forward to the coming new semester when everyone will be a little more excited to see his students, teachers, classmates, faculty, gatekeepers, guards at the teaching buildings, canteen workers and even missing classrooms and campus. In this particular period you have shown how united unanimous organized and dedicated you are to adopt and adapt to  the new methods of online classes through  learning new skills every day.
    I'd like to render special attention to the first and foremost duty of yours nowadays, that is to keep safe and stay happy in your homes!
    Hope to see you in good health , stronger and more mature in the new semester !

    We shall not give our hopes up in these dire times, whereby the virus has inevitably causes a lot of inconveniences in our everyday activities.  The International College, including our International Cooperation Department and other offices, is making numerous efforts to help students continue their studies. 
    Currently, some courses are taught online, with goals of not disrupting the regular work flow. These online courses are interactive and innovative means for students to continue learning. Additionally, students are encouraged to self-study via the campus platform. This means that even at home, students are learning without interruption. Students’ studies are of utmost importance to us. 
    Despite the obstacles created by the virus, we're all anxiously looking forward to the campus life.  When school resumes, you will be able to hang out with friends, see your favorite teachers, and continue living the wonderful college life. You will doubly treasure the good  campus times.  I wish everyone wellness in your body and mind as you continue your studie at home. We look forward to seeing you back in school, healthy, happy, and eager to learn.
    在这艰难时刻，我们不应放弃希望，因为病毒不可避免地给我们的日常行为造成了各种不方便。国际学院、国际合作办公室及各个部门，正在作出许多努力帮助学生继续学习。
    目前，有些课程是在线授课，目的是不打乱正常的工作学习流程。在线课程旨在为同学们提供一个继续交流与学习的创新性手段。此外，鼓励学生通过各种校园平台进行自学，这意味着学生无论身处哪里都停课不停学，保证学生正常学习对我们来说至关重要。
    尽管病毒造成了种种障碍，但我们仍翘首期盼着学校正常开学的那一天。那时，你将可以和同学朋友相约聚首，见到你最喜欢的老师，继续过着美好的大学生活。你会倍加珍惜大学时光。希望同学们在家学习时也能保持健康的身心。我们期盼着你们重回校园，健康快乐地徜徉知识的海洋。

    此外，还有来自国外合作办学高校的30余名专业外教，他们在来信来函来电中纷纷表示，虽然大家的国籍、民族、肤色、习俗等不同，但我们都有一个共同的名字——“郑大人”！让我们手拉手、肩并肩，心连心、渡难关，待到战“疫”全面胜利时，再一起团聚在充满温馨的郑大国际学院、再共同去拥抱樱花烂漫的春天！
